The Future Plants trial garden
This garden is situated right behind Aad and Elly Geerlings' house, meaning that they have a back garden that plant enthusiasts can only dream about!
A few plants of each of Piet's creations are grown here alongside those from fellow Future Plants breeder, Herbert Oudshoorn, and other hybridisers that have entrusted Aad to look after their new offerings.
Influencial nursery owners from all over the world visit this trial garden to select new varieties to offer their customers.

The front garden of the Geerlings' house, where Aconitum 'Stainless Steel' was discovered
As it happens the Future Plants trial garden is on a very auspicious site.
When Aad and Elly moved into the house back in 1988, the previous owner pointed out an unusual pale blue Aconitum that was growing in the front garden. He didnt know what it was or where it had come from, but thought of it as an attractive plant.
 Aconitum 'Stainless Steel'.
The first new introduction to be raised at Future Plants' HQ.
Following closer inspection by Piet Oudolf the plant was confirmed as indeed being quite unique, and was so given the Future Plants treatment and introduced as A. Stainless Steel.
