Mail order company doubles charity donation for Terry Lloyd memorial plant
15-02-2005 11:06 Helenium 'Chelsey' plants bought through UK mail order company GardeningExpress.co.uk will raise £1 for The British Red Cross Disaster Fund instead of the standard 50p.
By Miriam Young

Chris Bonnett, owner of GardeningExpress.co.uk, explained his decision to double the contribution, saying:

"We're all delighted to be involved, and have chosen to donate as much as we can afford to the appeal to raise as much money as possible, it's such a worthy cause."

Money raised from sales of Helenium 'Chelsey' will be donated to The British Red Cross Disaster Fund in memory of Terry Lloyd, the ITN journalist killed in Iraq almost 2 years ago.

Chelsey Lloyd

Terry's daughter, Chelsey, who has been on a fundraising mission for the charity since her father's death was delighted to hear of the additional support.

" I am absolutely blown away by the support given by the gardening world and the media for the launch of Helenium ‘Chelsey’. My father too would be deeply touched.

It is not until your life has been personally touched by a voluntary organisation that you appreciate the work, dedication and man-hours that are put in to help the lives of others.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank The Red Cross and also to everyone that is supporting this worthy cause, without any of you, none of this would be possible. I thank each and every one of you individually.”
