If you ordered a D. 'Coral Sunset' from a mail order company and were lucky enough to have received your plant then treasure it - as this is an extreme rarity!
Delphiniums can be very difficult to propagate, and this proved to be the case with D. 'Coral Sunset'.
Plants that were produced during the 2003 growing season were lifted from the fields in December to be prepared for shipping out of The Netherlands to stores around the world. It was observed that the dormant rootstocks hadn't formed any shoot-producing eyes, and therefore would not have grown again. Only a handful of roots were OK and these were dispatched to customers who had pre-ordered through mail order companies.
However, there were nowhere near enough good plants to even fulfill these orders, so if you ordered a D. 'Coral Sunset' from a mail order company but didn't receive it then unfortunately you won't be getting one this year. Please don't blame your mail order company, it's not their fault!
Every effort will be made during 2004 to propagate successful plants for sale in 2005. So keep watching www.plantspotters.com for latest news.
