Peter van Steijn introduced his first new variety before he realised that his Stones would start to get noticed by perennials fans.
Very much in keeping with his 'no pain' policy for Eryngiums, it was a simple, but boldly coloured plant called 'Hellas', named after a local rowing club.

Eryngium 'Hellas' was introduced in 2004, and is available to buy. Try contacting your local Darwin PlantSpotters supplier to see if they have it.
For the cut flower market, Peter has this stunning white variety, Eryngium gigantium 'Polar Stone'. Unfortunately it is only a biennial, but he is working to see if he can produce a perennial version.
 Eryngium gigantium 'Polar Stone'
Eryngium alpinum, E. gignantium 'Polar Stone' and E. 'Hellas' form a spectacular bouquet together.
Check this out - a variegated Eryngium! We are all waiting with baited breath to see if this will prove stable!
