Dwarf Delphiniums getting closer
09-08-2004 09:21 A whole series of dwarf Elatum type Delphiniums could soon be available thanks to breeding work carried out at Kebra nursery over the past 7 years.
By Miriam Young
The project, started by Mark's business partner Patrick Brama, has produced a wide range of colours on plants that attain a flowering height of just 24"/ 60cm.

Plants can be selected this year, meaning that they could be introduced as easrly as 2006.

The trial field where the new seedlings are grown.

The first dwarf plant that appeared was this royal blue with a black bee. That's Mark's legs in the background, illustrating just how short this plant is!

These creamy flowers with yellow bees once again raise the prospect of a yellow Delphinium.

Pale violet flowers with black bees are proving to be strong growers.

Breeding work
New possibilities from Kebra
By Miriam Young
Being so involved in the growing of new varieties, it’s only natural that Mark and Patrick should be curious as to how well they can do at creating a few of their own, so in 1999 they set up a breeding program for Delphiniums and Campanulas.
