Other possibilities?

While at Jan's nursery we found this fascinating bi-colour flower growing among the crop.

Unfortunately it was just a one-off, and being an annual, is impossible to save and reproduce.

Had a discovery like this been made on a perennial, it would have been possible to propagate from the stem where the flower was growing.

Harvesting the flower crop at the van Winsen nursery

Just a stone's throw from fellow Darwin PlantSpotters hybridizer Marco van Noort, Jan van Winsen is operating a very different kind of business, growing cut flowers.

Many of the varieties Jan grows are annuals, commonly seen at your local florist.

It just makes you think. Those cut flowers in your vase could have been grown by the man who created Echinacea 'Razzmatazz'!
