Who is Mr Natural?
11-09-2006 20:56 The Saul brothers are on a continual quest to keep Atlanta growing green.
By Miriam Young

Richard and Bobby Saul work together in a hugely successful partnership which is based on their determination to stay true to their ideals. While making optimum use of their opposite personality types, they are as one mind with their progressive attitude to business coupled with desire to stay away from the corporate lifestyle.

Both are firm advocates of environmental friendliness and this passion has manifested itself as a key element in their 3 businesses.

While Richard's breeding work which uses water from the nurseryside river falls under the Itsaul Plants banner, the brothers' wholesale nursery business Itsaul Nurseries has been instrumental in facilitating the building of green roofs.

This green roof on the Atlanta City Hall was made from plants and soil donated by Itsaul Nurseries and Itsaul Natural.

From government buildings to multi-story carparks, Itsaul Nurserys has stamped its signature on buildings all around Atlanta.

The World Congress Center in Atlanta is just one of the many largescale landscaping projects Itsaul Nurseries have worked on

With woodlands being cleared for building developments at a relentless pace, Atlanta's weather patterns have changed noticeably. Green roofs are a acknowledged as an effective antedote to all the concreting and Richard and Bobby have been pioneers in encouraging their use as well as supplying the materials necessary for the job.

Green roofs aren't restricted to large buildings, as so beautifully demonstrated at the Itsaul Nurserys Atlanta site, you too can have one in your back yard.

Green roofs and imaginative ways to plant them are just one example of how the Saul Brothers are taking plants to a new level.

Variegated banana trees are among the latest offerings at the Atlanta nursery. This variety was once only allowed to be grown by the King of Hawaii. Bobby's keeping tight-lipped about how he obtained these! And the fruit?...there's a rumour that the bananas have 'go-faster' stripes!

Their nurserys in Atlanta and Alpharetta are full of appealing varieties both of Richard's breeding and from outside sources which are displayed to demonstrate how beautifully they can be combined. The synergy of how plants work together is always an important item on the Saul brothers' agenda.

Way beyond being just another supply nursery, Itsaul Nurseries is an inspiration to landscape architects, offering a continually updated selection of unusual plants and novel ideas on how to use them.
