'Sherbet Cocktail' is first Phlox with yellow
20-07-2006 16:46 Set for introduction in Spring 2007, Phlox hybrid 'Sherbet Cocktail' is a multi-coloured curiosity and the first Phlox to show yellow in its petals.
By Miriam Young

Densely packed clusters of pale yellow-green buds encased in chocolate-maroon bracts open into smallish flowers with a never-seen-before colour scheme.

The flowers may be white or pale pink with pale chartreuse-yellow petal ends. This is the first time any kink of yellow colouring has been seen in Phlox, and Jan Verschoor is justifiably excited about this plant, not only for itself but for the possibilities it presents for the future.

While P. 'Sherbet Cocktail' will be available for plant enthusiasts eager to get their hands on the first Phlox with yellow, Jan is already at work trying to breed an all-yellow Phlox from it!
