H. 'Brownies' was also a seedling from the same mutation of H. villosa 'Autumn Bride' which gave us H. 'Caramel'.
Very different in character, it is a huge plant measuring in at a statuesque 40cm (16") tall by 50cm (20") wide, with sprays of cream flowers rising to 80cm (32").
The chocolate tinted leaves measure up to 12cm (almost 5") across and have a crinkled texture to add interest.

But the first thing you notice upon encountering H. 'Brownies' is its elegant domed shape. The leaves are held on long stems which allow them to fall just perfectly so that the surfaces are fully exposed to the light, forming a plant with an airy inside structure, quite unlike our typical expectations of Heuchera!
Like H. 'Caramel', H. 'Brownies' was introduced in 2006 and you may be able to get it from your Darwin PlantSpotters supplier.
Heuchera 'Brownies' a little later in the year, when both the temperature and the plant's colour have warmed up!
