Hello Pam, I am sorry to hear about your disappointing experience.
As you have found out yourself, Pincushion Flowers are generally easy to grow and Scabiosa Grand Stone is no exception.
This variety is has S. caucasica in its parentage and should be treated according to the likings of that species.
In particular it suffers if the soil it's planted in doesnt drain well. You say you are watering correctly, but is it possible that the soil is holding too much water beneath the surface? If the soil doesnt drain well then Im afraid your plant is unlikely to make it through the winter.
S. caucasica also has a dislike of hot and humid conditions. I am aware that many parts of the US have had an exceptionally hot humid summer, so perhaps this has also caused your plant to suffer?
A tip to help your plant produce more blooms is to pinch out the main flower stem close to its base. This encourages more flowering stems to appear from all around. Continue to pinch out the stems of faded flowers in the same way before they produce seed to encourage more flowering stems to be produced.
I hope this is of some help to you?

| I purchased this plant in Lowes a couple of months ago. I've been very disappointed.I've only had 2 blooms and now the plant looks terrible. Hardly any new growth. It is in full sun, properly watered...I don't know what else to do? I have grown the other pincushion in the past just fine. What should I do to help this plant thrive???
